Vineyard

Fruit classification was based on those vineyards showing flavour expression characteristics of quality. Healthy balanced vineyards profiling fresh stone fruits and a natural acidity were chosen for this wine style.

Season

Following a dry winter it was late spring and early summer rains that gave the vines the impetus for growth with average yields across the white varieties. We were able to begin harvest on 21st January. With the lower crops the fruit ripened quite quickly and cleanly.

Tasting Note

Pale straw in colour. Bright peach, melon and butterscotch notes fill the nose, culminating in a fresh and softening finish with complexing buttery oak, looking very soigne.

Wine Style

Medium bodied serious Australian Chardonnay.

Winemaking

This wine was fermented cool over a week or two period. With the majority fermented on house select oak. Once fermentation was complete, this wine was matured on fine yeast lees over 8 months to build palate weight & texture. 100% of this blend enjoys malolactic fermentation for length and complexity.

Reviews

"I was concerned that this might be too rich and exaggerated, especially after the initial aromas of butterscotch on the nose, but no need to worry. There’s enough fruit flavours here to bring a sense of balance and freshness. Stonefruit flavours with peach and citrus, a round, plump mouthfeel, and a hint of vanilla with the oak. It’s a smart combination."

Warrnambool Standard April 2025

"Medium straw gold with green edges. Fresh bread crust, preserved lemon, ripe yellow melon, white peach flesh, butterscotch, creamed honey, crushed white salt, roast pork flesh and a little hessian sack. Full and fleshy. There’s a touch of struck match and white quartz stoniness to give some interest and balance over lemon curd, peach melba and nougat. The finish is still crisp with a bitter herb nuance. It’s unapologetically big in style, but showing some class."
